The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Post by Doug »

Ok, here's the good:  We made the Finals!  Well, good and bad.  We're on 2nd at 10:38.  Apparently there weren't enough bands for them to do multiple heats in a prelim, so all bands go right to the final.  Aren't y'all glad we've been working so hard on the MSR?  Finals are Medley with one run for all the marbles.  Here's the official Draw:

Grade 3B - Final

01 10:30 Turriff and District

02 10:38 Silver Thistle Pipes and Drums - U.S.A.

03 10:46 Williamwood

04 10:54 Major Sinclair Memorial

05 11:02 Arbroath

06 11:10 Oban High School

07 11:18 Denny and Dunipace Gleneagles

08 11:26 North Coast - U.S.A.

09 11:34 Cross Borders - Spain

10 11:42 Scottish Borders

11 11:50 Cleland Memorial

12 11:58 Tullylagan

13 12:06 Tweedvale

14 12:14 Perth and District

15 12:22 Lochryan

16 12:30 Dunbar Royal British Legion

17 12:38 Kilmarnock

18 12:46 Lanark and District

19 12:54 Milngavie

20 13:02 Ayr Pipe Band Society

21 13:10 Belgian Blend - Belgium

22 13:18 McNeillstown

Adjudicators:

Terry Lee

George Wilson

Alexander Russell

Gordon Craig

So that's the good and bad.  Ready for the Ugly?  From the RSPBA website:

Holy smokes, this definitely flips or practice and rehearsal time in it's head. Time to dig deep on the Medley friends!

Surprised to hear that bands are expected to take part in the march past. It used to be the case but dropped away the last couple of times. I planned accordingly and need to be in Inverness by 9-10 pm on Saturday. It's about a 3 hour drive from Glasgow. I have no desire to begin a run of defectors, but if possible, I'd like to skip the march past.

No worries about the march past Ken.  We'll get David to impersonate you.

I spoke about this last night, but here's the latest information:

I received an email from the RSPBA coordinator for the Perth Games yesterday.  He said that Grade 3 was going to play the MSR at Perth based on the fact that the Worlds prelims were going to be MSR.  Now that there are no prelims at the Worlds, he was taking a vote of the P/Ms from all of the Grade 3 bands to see if they wanted to play Medley or stay with MSR.  I voted for Medley so that we could get another run of it before the Worlds.  I presume that many of the other bands will vote the same way.

What does that mean?

As planned, we'll play the MSR in G3 at North Berwick on Saturday the 10th.
Presuming the vote goes the way I think it will, we'll play the Medley in G3 at Perth.  We're already scheduled to play the Medley in G2 at Perth.
We'll play the Medley in G3B at the Worlds.

Yes, you counted that correctly, we'll likely be playing the Medley three times in Scotland, and the MSR only once.

Other news:  I apparently misunderstood when they said that we could get up to 30 "Band Supporter" tickets for the Worlds.  I figured that they were free.  I was wrong.  They want 9 pounds per ticket.  I don't have the scratch right now to purchase all of them, but if y'all will verify your ticket numbers, I will get them, get reimbursed by the band, and y'all can pay the band.

Let me know ASAP!

Thanks,
D
